                           Community Concerns

Question:
Where do the proceeds from the Educational Lottery go?

Jones:  The following web address provides some information; http://www.sceducationlottery.com/educationwins/educationwins.aspx.  The SC Education Lottery legislation, states that “proceeds of lottery games must be used to support improvements and enhancements for educational purposes and programs as provided by the General Assembly and that the net proceeds must be used to supplement, not supplant, existing resources for educational purposes and programs.”  Each year, the Legislature decides how lottery funds are appropriated.

Question:  How can we get our officials to respond to our request for speed breakers in our community?

Jones:  By using your vote and sending them the message that its "time for a change".

Atty. Andrew Jones met with the Greenville County Young Democrats at the Handlebar on Tuesday, May 27th , 2008.

Alternative fuel and preparing students to compete in our global economy were key concepts during our candidate's presentation.   He commented on Greenville's growth and  how new businesses are bringing jobs to
Greenville and bringing in their own people to do these highly skilled jobs.

Jones talked about changing things and demonstrated a  "we can" attitude toward many of the issues facing our community.

Question:
What can you do about HIV-AIDS in our community?

Jones: The Health Department must be commended for all that they do in regard to disease control in our community.   Prevention is the key to controlling HIV-AIDS and education is how we do this.   A collaborative effort between the health department and community serving organizations with a focus of HIV-AIDS educational programs that are age appropriate for our youth would prove most beneficial in addressing HIV-AIDS in our community. Currently DHEC address HIV-AIDS with the AIDS drug assistance program ( ADAP), provide counseling, testing and referrals and some education programs targeting their list of most at risk populations.   To view the 2008 report visit website:

Ways to improve community services from our health department must be ongoing.   HIV-AIDS in the community is everyone's concern and the health department must be challenged and closely mointered to insure that we are receiving the best health care available.
